The Argentine Men’s National Team are gearing up for the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan with an intense training schedule and have arranged friendly matches as part of their preparations for the May 31 to June 8 event in Tokyo.
The team, led by Head Coach Jon Uriarte, are working overtime with double shifts in the gym. Uriarte has the team pumping iron in the morning and evening to prepare his charges for their last chance to qualify for the Beijing Games.
Ahead of the Tokyo tournament, Argentina are also set to play warm-up matches against Australia in Argentina and USA in Los Angeles.
Since Monday, April 14, setters Luciano De Cecco and Santiago Orduna, middle players Diego Stepanenko, Gustavo Porporatto, Pablo Peralta, opposite players Lucas Chavez and Martin Hernandez, wing spikers Leandro Concina, Lucas Ocampo and liberos Martin Meana and Facundo Santucci have been in training.
Meanwhile, wing spiker Rodrigo Quiroga has been ruled out of the tournament as he is suffering from glandular fever. The San Juan player, turning out for Catania in the Italian A2 League, has been laid up for two weeks as a result of the illness.
This follows news that veteran Marcos Milinkovic will be missing the tournament because his wife is expecting their second child in the middle of May.
