Algeria Women start Olympic Games preparations
Algerian players celebrate after securing African berth for Olympic Games Alger, Algeria, March 15, 2008 - The Algerian Women’s Volleyball team began on Sunday their preparations for the Olympic Games in Beijing in August with a local camp in Alger, during which an important medical examination will be carried out on all players selected for the Summer Games.
The team will train twice daily till March 22 at Zeralda hall under the supervision of Head Coach Ikheji Boussaid, who will oversee the medical examination done by the medical staff and the National Olympic Committee.
The coach selected 10 players from the local league, who will be joined later by Algeria's European-based professionals.
The selected local players are Abderahim Mouni, Aissou Tassaadit, Boukemia Safia (Asw Bejaia) Hamouche Salima, Azzem Yamina, Mansouri Nawel, Madani Narimane (Nc Bejaia) Oukazi F-Zohra and Akkouche (Benhamouda McAlger). Boussaid also selected Mouloudia player Draa Dalal, who was injured before the 2007 All Africa Games in Blida.
Algeria is one of eight countries who have already secured their berth for Beijing, along with hosts China, the top three countries in the 2007 World Cup, Italy, Brazil and USA, the European representative Russia, Norceca representative Cuba and Venezuela from South America. The last four teams will be determined through the World and Asian Olympic Qualification Tournaments in Tokyo, Japan, through May 17-25.
