China´s beach volleyball team prepare for 2008 (there’s video here to watch !)

Tian Jia, captain of China Beach Volleyball Team, said, "At the beginning stage,there were not many spectators and some spectators came to watch the game with umbrellas, unlike westerners who come to enjoy the sunshine. Now the situation is much improved. There are more domestic competitions and we're seeing more spectators and less umbrellas."

The top ranked duo of Tian Ji and Wang Jie admit there is a lot of work to be done on the finer points of the game before China can catch up with stronger teams such as the United States, Australia and Brazil.

Uganda Volleyball Team Comes in 2nd in Rwanda Meet

(Kampala) UGANDA beach volleyballers won sh0.72m after both the men and women teams finished second at the MTN sponsored Rwanda championships at Gisenyi on Sunday.

Swalley Kenyi reports that Uganda fielded three teams where women's top seed Shiela Omuriwe, who won the inaugural title last year, and her partner Emma Ariyo settled for sh0.27m.

Al Bander to stage tennis and beach volleyball

Published: 25 September 2006 AL BANDER Hotel and Resort is organising tennis and beach volleyball tournaments during the month of Ramadan, sponsored by Batelco at the resort premises in Sitra. The fourth Al Bander/Batelco Ramadan Open Tennis Tournament gets underway on Thursday in co-operation with the Bahrain Tennis Federation and under the patronage of federation president Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa. The tennis event consists of doubles and is for intermediate and advanced categories. "We are expecting 24 teams taking part in this year's tennis tournament, including 14 in the intermediate and 10 in the advanced section which will be a record compared to last year's 16 teams who were in the fray," said the resort's club and recreation manager Ahmed Mukhtar. Fourth The Open Beach Volleyball Tournament, which will also be organised for the fourth consecutive year, is being held in conjunction with the Bahrain Volleyball Association and under the patronage of its president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed who is also the Arab Volleyball Organisation president. "In the beach volleyball tournament, around 20 teams are expected to participate in a round robin format competition, including players from top clubs in Bahrain as well as the national team," said Mukhtar. Mukhtar said registration for both events is ongoing at the resort's Health Club. Conference and the draw for both events will take place tomorrow at 8:30pm at the resort's Conference Centre and all the participants are invited to attend the function. Mukhtar said entry forms are available at the resort and tomorrow will be the last day for registration. The gate will be open for spectators free of charge. Indoor World Champions Italy prep for the Next Step

Bonitta plots Italy's World Championships defence

Marco Bonitta, head coach of women's world champions Italy, has divided the year into two stages as he plots his team's defence of the world title in Japan.

The first stage takes in the Montreux Volley Masters in Switzerland and the Trophy Valle d'Aosta in Courmayeur, Italy, in June, and friendly matches with the Czech Republic, Spain and Brazil. The second phase starts with the FIVB World Grand Prix, which will take Italy to Poland, Chinese Taipei and Japan before heading for home and the Final Round at Reggio Calabria from September 6-10.
