Rest in Peace Ashlyn Dyer

Ashlyn Dyer, a former Mira Costa and USC volleyball star, died when she was struck by a car in San Francisco in a hit-and-run accident last month.

Dyer was hit by an unknown vehicle while jogging in San Francisco while training for the Los Angeles marathon.

More than one thousand people packed Fisher Gymnasium March 18th to remember her and reflect on the meaning of her brief life and tragic hit and run death.

Injury to the brain or spinal cord affects nearly 2 million people in the United States each year, causing permanent functional disabilities including paraplegia, quadriplegia, and cognitive disorders.

Bringing new treatments from the laboratory setting to patients requires an integrated effort among basic researchers, clinical researchers, and clinicians. With this in mind, the UCSF Brain and Spinal Injury Center (BASIC) was formed in 2002 to promote collaborative basic, translational, and clinical studies on injuries to the brain and spinal cord. Donations to the Ashlyn Dyer foundation will go to fund research which could lead to treatments for brain or spinal cord injuries.

You can make a contribution to the Ashlyn Dyer Fund for Neurological Research and Support either by credit card on the website: http://www.marincf.org/page28529.cfm or by personal check made out to The Marin Community Foundation with a notation designating the Ashlyn Dyer Fund for Neurological Research and Support to the address below:

Rest In Peace Lauren Townsend

Rest_in_peace Last  Thursday was the 7th year anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting massacre. I started this magazine in memory of One of the students shot to death during the massacre- Columbine Volleyball Captain, Lauren Townsend.

At the beginning of this year her mother contacted me and gave me permission to rerpint pictures of Lauren and the two together when Lauren was much younger.                                      Lauren_tjpg_2

I encourage anyone who knew Lauren or has photos to send them in and I will post them in dedication to her memory.

Rest In Peace.

Summer I s OVER!!!

I had the BEST time this weekend. Alot of times when you try to do something new you never know what the outcome  will be. I was given the opportunity to play on the Masters Barbara May Memorial Team at this year's Manhattan Beach Surf Festival in the 6man competition. Barbara May is 2004 Olympic gold Medalist for Beach Volleyball  Misty May's...mother who died of cancer.

I played with some absolutely amazing and phenomenal women who have done an amazing job of keeping Barbara's memory alive. We got second place! We got to the finals which was great. Nancy, Colleen, Debbie, Sharkie, Jan, Eileen, MJ, Lori..just to name a few were great teammates who taught me alot about teamwork and honor. They ...all of the "B Girlz" honored Barbara in every point, set and game played. It was a great honor to participate.

Nancy, Eileen and Jan were awesome setters that just gave me sets that made my mouth water. Colleen we called the contortionist becasue she hit balls that were outside and around the antenna and made some points that were AMAZING! Debbie Fonoimoana "the savvy server"and I hung out together and I was trying to get tips on how to have a daughter like hers. Falyn is 6'3" and 13 years old is amazingly grounded, sweet and mature and she IS the perfect daughter...the one I want to have. Debbie is hilarious. She kept me laughing the ENTIRE day! We kept going over to the guys court to watch the legendary team of Karch Kiraly, Singin Smith , Randy Stoklos, Steve Obradovich, Mike Dodd, Tim Hovland, Leonard Armato, Ricci Luyties, Steve Timmons, Mike Whitmarsh all play together on one team! Everyone played but it was more amazing to see who was ..waiting to play than who was actually on the court! It was great.

Got a 7am call time. Gotta be at the gym at 5am... workout til 6:15 then report to work at 7. My summer is officially over.
