Duo sandblast rivals for Tanimex Cup

HCM CITY — HCM City’s Tanimex duo Tran Ngoc Cao Son and Nguyen Minh Thien won the National Beach Volleyball Tournament-Tanimex Cup after beating their teammates Truong Huu Tan and Pham Anh Tuan in the final on Sunday.
Son and Thien beat Tan and Tuan 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) in the final to win a cash prize of VND8 million (US$500) after beating Nguyen Van Thanh and Doan Duy Thanh of Vikoda Khanh Hoa in the semi-final match.
In the women’s final, HCM City’s Tanimex duo Phan Thi Cam Hong and Huynh Do Hong Loan beat Hai Phong’s Nguyen Thi Tiep and Truong Thi Yen 2-1 (21-17, 24-22, 15-10), winning the same amount in prize money.
Son and Hong won the award for the best women’s and men’s player, while a new face appeared in this event, when Nguyen Thi Huyen from Ha Nam was chosen to be Miss Beach Volleyball.
Huyen, 14 years old, had practised beach volleyball for only a week before participating with her team in the tournament, but she proved her skills well. Formerly, she played indoor volleyball
