Touched ALOT of balls today. We went 3 hours today from 10 to 1 and it got pretty warm by midday.
Serve Receive drills to warm up then these led into setting, then hitting off the set- the setter isn't far from the hitter. We are working on maintaining an equal distance from each other no matter where we are in the court.
I've done this before where I've had a coach actually tie me to my (indoor) teammate/partner to make sure that we didn't get any farther than about 5-6 feet from each other.
The idea is to get use to staying the SAME distance from each other so that we don't have to go chasing a passed or set ball all over the court. Ball control practice.
We imagine that there is an imaginary triangle. I'm at one point (of the triangle) when I pass to my setter who is at another point then when I hit I'm at the third point- ALL skills are performed an equal distance away from each other and we are practicing how to MAINTAIN that distance no matter where the ball is.
Ball Control, did I say that already?
So if the ball is served to my partner to the right deep corner I have to get to a setting position that is at about 6 feet away from her (so I'm moving already to the point in the triangle that is 6 feet away from her-on her left) at a right angle. I dont try and push her all the way to the net but I lead her 6 feet away from me and ahead of her so that she has a good enough approach for a strong downball attack.
We touched alot of balls today and then we served alot today which I love. Serving is the first opportunity you have to attack your opponent.
Some serves you use to ace a player and some serves you use to push them deep in the court so they are off balance
Tomorrow wall drills at Marks.
Great week of practice. I'm tired and that's great.
P.S. Mark makes me take off my watch during practice. I like it better.
Rest in Peace the victims who died in London today.
