Event: Under-19 yrs. National Team Tryout for competition in Netherlands

Age: Must be 15-21 years old

Dates: June 6-8, 2008 (Fri.-Sun.)

Time: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.-5 p.m. daily (no lunch provided)

Location: Playa Del Rey Beach (at the end of Culver Blvd. in Los Angeles)

Cost: $100 + USAV Membership (required one-time membership $5)

USAV Beach Programs to Hold Tryouts for World University Championship

USA Volleyball Beach Programs will hold tryouts for the University Beach National Team on May 9-11 in Playa de Rey, Calif.

The University Beach National Team will consist of two men’s beach volleyball teams and two women’s teams that will compete at the Fourth World University Beach Volleyball Championship on July 2-7, 2008 in Hamburg, Germany.

The team tryouts will open with a two-day training camp (May 9-10) led by USAV Beach Youth and Junior National Team Head Coach Danalee Bragado-Corso. That will be followed by the qualifying scrimmage on May 11, which will determine the team nominations. For those who do not have a partner, there will be a King of the Beach format during the camp in which coaches will pair athletes.

To qualify to participate in this event and camp, you must:

Be a U.S. citizen. Have a birth date between Jan. 1, 1980 and Dec. 31, 1990.

Meet one of the following academic criteria*:

Be accepted to attend a university as a freshman in Fall 2008.

Currently registered as a college student pursuing a degree (Spring 2008).

Have graduated from college in 2007.

* Note: Must be taking at least three classes. Junior and community college as well as masters programs and other post-graduate studies are eligible

Selection procedures will be available at www.usavolleyball.org no later than 30 days before the tryout event.

Dates: Camp – May 9-10, 2008 (Fri.-Sat.); Scrimmage – May 11, 2008

Volunteers of the World University Games beach volleyball 2008 in Hamburg become acquainted

Round about 80 volunteer- applications, mostly from students from most different faculties who have a preference for sport, arrived concerning the student world championship beach volleyball 2008. Half of the applicants are from Hamburg. In order to give the volunteers the chance to get to know the locations and the team members, a collective weekend on April 19th and 20th 2008 is planned. In Hamburg’s exclusive Indoor beach volleyball centre with heated sand, the upcoming volunteer employment will be discussed in detail and the volunteers are going to be specifically prepared for the WUC.
